Nutrition Counseling

Why should you see a dietitian?

Studies show that those that engaged in nutritional counseling with a registered dietitian had better outcomes compared to those who did not.  Here at Our Daily Bread, our masters level, registered dietitian/nutritionist is available to help with your nutritional needs.

What can you expect during a consultation?

During a consultation, you will not only receive a individualized meal plan, but our dietitian will explain and teach you how to make healthier choices and how to prepare healthy and tasty meals.   At Our Daily Bread, we practice a holistic approach to health and lifestyle management.  We  look at the big picture, assessing the needs of the whole person and providing a plan that will not only consider your nutritional needs, but also consider emotional, spiritual, and physical needs, and environmental factors as well.

Why use a integrative nutritional management approach, as well as medical nutrition therapy (MNT) for treatment and prevention of disease.

The practice of integrative nutrition takes a holistic approach to wellness recognizing that the foundation for optimal health and healing begins with a health promoting diet.  When providing individual nutrition management, we recognize that ..

  1. each person has a unique genetic make-up
  2. each person functions in an environment with physical, social, and lifestyle factors that impacts the overall health.

MNT is used by a registered dietitian to assess and evaluate patients health condition and to determine goals and assess a plan of action.  In designing a plan for you, we take into consideration all these different factors so that we can help you to succeed in reaching your nutrition and health goals.

What health conditions can benefit from seeing a registered dietitian?

You are what you eat, and sometimes its easy to not realize the impact food has on our overall health.  Depending on your health, you may see a greater impact with your dietary changes compared to someone else.   But whether its for  maintenance or therapy, you should see some benefit from a visit with our dietitian.  If we do not have a solution for your problem, we will let you know, and we will assist in finding someone that can better serve you. We are staffed with a dietitian and medical doctor that works together in providing you with the plan to best address your needs.

Are you struggling with weight loss or having difficulty with managing your diabetes, or looking for ways to prevent developing these illnesses?

We can help, through the use of medical nutrition therapy, which is provided by a qualified dietitian and is based on decades of medical research on the relationship between diet, nutrition, and health outcomes.  This therapy includes the following…

  1. a comprehensive nutrition assessment.
  2. develop a nutritional diagnosis.
  3. determine goals, care plan, as well as specific nutrition interventions to help better manage or treat the condition.

Why do we promote a whole food, plant based (vegan) dietary plan?

There are evidenced based studies which have found that a plant based diet can decrease the risk of developing certain diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, certain cancers, and other conditions such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diverticulosis, diverticulitis, and more. There are also studies that prove that vegetarians live significantly longer than the general population.   So, we would be remiss in not encouraging what we believe to be a healthier diet and lifestyle.   We will work with you wherever you are, and will assist you in making changes to becoming a healthier you!
